Maolana Habibur Rahman. He is an open proponent of fundamentalism, terrorism, and corruption. He wants to make Bangladesh another Taleban state.
Awami League, with their agreement with the Khilafat Majlish, has nominated this rubbish of a man to run in Sylhet 6 constituency.
AL leaders there have refused to work for and under him for election. Read Muhammad Zafar Iqbal’s article regarding this man HERE and a Daily Star report HERE.
Who will ever listen to or care for our frustration?

As we saw from the report on RAB from Tasneem’s blog, RAB will be used in this election. We see the first signs of this already. Sayeed Khokon, son of deceased Mohammed Hanif, is claiming that his activists are being picked up by RAB. I expect to see similar incidences in Mirza Abbas’s fight against Saber Hossain. Mirza Abbas has strong control over RAB and uses it regularly - remember Sumon?
How might RAB be used?

We found out with utmost disgust that Bangladesh Awami League signed a deal with a fundamentalist Islamist party, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, which will allow Islamic clerics to issue fatwa if the alliance comes to power. Details are HERE. Read Abdul Gaffar Choudhury’s article on this HERE.
We are at a loss of words. We show our strongest opposition to this deal, whether it will actually materialize or not. We demand Abdul Jalil clarify himself and resign right now.

With due respect to all, I am convinced that AL will not get more than 20-30 MP’s in next election. Reasons, I feel, it is totally failure of AL leadership and Sheikh Hasina’s failure. Though, she is nothing to loose, she will live a good life despite activist of AL suffered all the pains for so called ANDOLON. I made my comment earlier that Hasina compromised in 1986 with Ershad despite the sacrifice of AL activist at Chittagong(Laldighi) …

The election commission has announced today that there will be no new voter list published after the new list is prepared (if prepared). Fraudulent names from the current list will be crossed off by hand, and new names will be added by hand as well. Read the repoert HERE.
Is it hard for anyone to imagine the consequences/motives of this?

The army has taken up camps in some places to ensure law and order. It is also symbolically being used to keep 14-party activists at bay. They are not seen in the streets but only in some select areas like around the Bangabhaban. Intimidation?

A leading Bangla newspaper, Daily Jugantor, published a detailed life story of current Nizami-Khaleda government’s MP Salauddin Kader Chowdhury, more commonly known as Sa. Ka. Chow. Read it HERE.
His house in Chittagong was known as the koshai khana (slaughter house) for the freedom fighters. He is also infamous for addressing Khaleda Zia with “Before, a dog would wiggle its tail. Now the tail wiggles the dog.”
An unbelievable bio on Salauddin Kader Chowdhury! Read it HERE.

BNP-Jamaat: Election must be held in 90 days as per constitution. Their thoughts: I have to do the elections while our guys are still in the key positions in the field so I can try to rig it.
AL: A fair election is more important to democracy that just having a farcial election on time just because constitution says that. Their thoughts: I don’t want to committ suicide going
into a set game.
What are your thoughts?

What is more important - an election on time or a fair election?
Both is best offcourse, but do we have time to have an election by January 25 and do what is necessary to have a fair election?
